Seefeld, Kreis 8
Seefled is probably the most sought after area in the centre of Zurich. It combines residential housing, many shops, beautiful parks and a magnificent architectural style... all close to the lake.
Seefeld has also become a business place with many companies that have installed their headquarters here. The leafy, mainly residential area of District 8 is known for Seefeld's waterfront parks, including the Chinagarten with its ornate pavilions and the Zürichhorn with an open-air cinema. In the idyllic district of Mühlebach there are cultural sites such as the Theater im Seefeld and the Homeland Security Center with a public exhibition in a magnificent villa. The Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich and the Zurich Tram Museum are located in Weinegg, further south.
Other must-sees are the spacious parks and quays with various sculptures (including Heureka by Jean Tinguely and Sheep Piece by Henry Moore), and the last building designed by the architect Le Corbusier. Also worth mentioning are the two seaside resorts of Tiefenbrunnen and Utoquai, and the old villas as well as the Tiefenbrunnen mill, a former brewery and mill that is now used as a cultural meeting center.
In Seefeld you will find an above-average number of delicatessen shops, hairdressers and law firms. Seefeld is very popular as a residential area, but also correspondingly expensive. This is also the Swiss district with the highest proportion of academics in the resident population (70%).
Urban chic on the lake shore - this is how Seefeld advertises itself and is right: luxurious living thanks to the conception and construction of many restaurants, bars and distinguished boutiques. From archaeological finds it was found that the area was already inhabited in the Stone Age. Many villas were built in the 19th century. Among other things, the large and beautiful psychiatric facility, the 'Burgholzli', was built at the foot of the vineyard. The grapes on the Rebberg are still cultivated by a private winery.
Seefeld is becoming increasingly popular as a residential area: leisure, living, style and success come together here. The area around Mühlebach district, which consists of part of the Seefeld and another part of the Weinegg, is quite densely populated, but still very quiet.
The last farm in the district is not far away, where a cider festival is organized every year.
